The Smothers Brothers are not only the funniest duo to have emerged from the Folk
Movement . . . they are also the ones who made it fashionable once again to be brothers.
It's a well-known fact that brotherhood was in decline in mid-twentieth-century entertainment. Understandably, after the heyday of the Marxes and the Karamazovs had come to an end, it was inevitable that the whole thing would go out of fashion for a while. It got so bad that kids like me and my brother Danny had to pose as only children. Sure, we lived in the same house and had the same parents, but -- we insisted -- we were not brothers.
Then Tom and Dick made the scene, and everything changed. Sibling rivalry was once again "in", and the bunk-bed industry boomed. My brother Danny and I got so excited that we even convinced our parents to acquire a sister.
So thank you, guys! Danny and I are fraternally grateful.
"Our study included 10 separate chromatic formalwear tests, and the results came out 'mint' in each one," said Dr. Hugo Barneezles, a Harvard University specialist in tuxedo pigmentation.
The 210-page study was accompanied by supporting illustrations [figures A, B, and C below], demonstrating the relationship between the chemical composition of the jacket's fibers and the hues recognized by the human eye.
"Mint fabric and lime fabric are, chemically speaking, two very different forms of matter," explained Barneezles, who sports an avocado-tinted laboratory coat. "Though the naked eye sees both as shades of light green, it is actually very easy to differentiate them in the laboratory setting." Dr. Barneezles' laboratory has an especially beautiful setting, as it overlooks Niagara Falls.
"It's a little bit of a shock to suddenly realize I've been living a lime," commented Tikitz. "On the other hand, it's comforting to know that I'm a mint dude."
But not, perhaps, indefinitely. As Dr. Barneezles noted, mint fabric molecules can sometimes, over time, exhibit "progressive chromatic degradation". Or, to put it in lay terms, Manny's jacket might fade. "Time will tell," said the scientist cautiously. "But if Mr. Tikitz works enough outdoor events, he may end up in the limelight after all."
